Herbal Home Remedies For Ear Infection: 10 Effective Ingredients

Every human suffers from ear infections at least once in his lifetime. Bacteria, virus or fungi can get trapped and cause terrible ear infections.

Although children are prone to more ear infections than adults, poor hygiene can make it very likely for an adult to get an ear infection. Common cold and flu, allergies, pollution, smoking, and irritants can cause many types of ear infections.

1. Garlic Oil

Garlic is said to have many properties that can be very beneficial for the treatment of an ear infection: it has antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Since ear infections are mainly caused due to viruses, bacteria and fungi, garlic is an excellent ingredient to treat your ear infections.

Many doctors, pharmacists and old people believe that the topical application of garlic can ease an earache. Many eardrops also have garlic oil in them as it is very effective and potent.

Garlic oil is easily available at a local store or you can mix garlic paste in olive oil to make its oil. 

You can put two drops of warm garlic oil (tolerable) in the ear and let it rest for 10-15 minutes. Repeat this process twice daily. 

2. Ginger

Consumption of ginger on a regular basis can help your body become immune to such infections. Since ginger has antimicrobial, antibacterial, antivirus, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties, it can help reduce and cure ear infections in most adults and children.

You can simply peel ginger’s skin and mash an inch of it. Add some drops of water and heat the paste well so it becomes an oil-like thick liquid.

You can put two to three drops of warm ginger oil in the outer ear canal or inside the ear.

Do this at least twice a day to see effective results. Most people see effective results within a day or two. It can reduce earaches, swelling and inflammation almost immediately.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

The acetic acid of Apple Cider Vinegar is very helpful in the treatment of many fungal and bacterial infections. It is also helpful in the treatment of common cold.

If your ear infection is due to common cold, you may drink a spoon of Apple Cider Vinegar twice daily with water to treat the root cause of ear infection.

Or, if the infection is due to unknown factor, you may apply a few drops of it to the outer ear using a dropper bottle.

4. Homemade Ear Drops

Many ingredients can be mashed, combined and squeezed to make a herbal homemade ear drops solution for your ear infection.

You may use ginger, garlic, tea tree oil, mullein, basil leaves or other herbs. Simple crush all of them and put two to three drops at least thrice every day. You may also buy herbal ear drops from a local herb store. These are very effective and have no side-effects at all.

5. Hydrogen Peroxide

This cleaning fluid is used to prevent any dirt, bacteria or virus from building homes in your ears.

Many doctors use it and even medicines have a tiny amount of hydrogen peroxide for cleaning the infected areas. If your ear infection doesn’t subside, you may put a drop or two into your ears to clean them thoroughly. This prevents hearing loss and earaches.
