Our dogs are extremely strong but equally sensitive sometimes. They need to be fed with great immune-boosting superfoods so they’re never infected.

There are a number of reasons why our dogs are affected by ear infections. The most common reason for ear infections in dogs is the moisture trapped inside their ears.

Due to the shape of dogs’ ears, they can hear better but are prone to collect moisture. Fungi can thrive in moisture areas and dogs’ ears are their favourite. 

Ear infections can be bacterial, fungal and of other types that can easily be treated. You should definitely visit a vet if your dog has swelling or you see other spots in his ears. In the meanwhile, you can change and balance his diet better to avoid weaker immunity.

You can also try various herbal and home remedies to treat ear infections in dogs.

1. Green Tea

Green tea is famous for providing a lot of antioxidants and antifungal benefits. Our dogs don’t need green tea to lose weight but they can definitely be benefitted from the antifungal benefits of green tea.

You should boil some water and add some green tea bags to it. Let the water come to a boil and then, cool it down. When the mixture is cool, add a few drops to your dog’s ear using a tiny cotton ball. This will cleanse the infection. 

2. Garlic

Garlic’s allicin compound contains lots of antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal properties. You can add a clove of garlic to your dog’s diet or crush the garlic for topical application.

You can crush the garlic and pour its juice into your dog’s ear or use garlic oil instead. Garlic oil is easily available at any local medical store and is a great remedy to flush out yeast, fungal, or any bacterial infections from your dog’s ear.

3. Vinegar & Water

Apple Cider Vinegar can help reduce the pain and swelling of your ears. Apple Cider Vinegar is commonly available in many homes nowadays.

You can quickly stir up a mixture. Take a spoon of apple cider vinegar and a spoon or two of water. Mix the solution and drip it into your dog’s ear to relieve the infection instantly.

It is often used as a common anti-septic that has many anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties. It destroys the yeast in the ears and cleanses the eardrums for your lovely doggo!

4. Mullein Oil

Although Mullein Oil is not commonly available, it is one of the best herbal remedies for ear infection.

You can drip 5-6 drops of mullein oil in your pup’s ears to ease the pain and inflammation. Also, the oil is compatible with garlic oil. You can mix the oils and drip 6 drops of oil in the dog’s ear. 

This oil is helpful in the treatment of burns, pain, itching, redness and swelling of ears and eardrums.

5. Oregano Oil

Oregano oil is an essential oil used in many skin and fungal infections. You can use it to cure bacterial infections as well as other infections caused by viruses and fungi.

Oregano Oil should be mixed with a carrier oil or gel. Oregano oil can be mixed with coconut oil, olive oil, and aloe vera gel to obtain an antidote to ear infections in dogs.

Drip about 5 drops of this solution with a clean cotton ball to relieve pain, inflammation and infection symptoms. This oil can treat other problems such as dry skin, itchy patches, rough patches, dandruff, ticks, and so on.

6. Yogurt

Yogurt is a probiotic that consists of good bacteria that fight the bad bacteria. The bad bacteria and fungi can cause problems and yogurt can defend these problems.

You should feed a lot of vegetables to your dog. Whenever you give him vegetables, just add some yogurt to the veggies and your pup will love it. You also have a better option: Pour a few drops of yogurt in your dog’s ear with a syringe. Remember to use natural, unsweetened and organic yogurt only.

7. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains many acidic components that can be used to treat ear infections and clear many types of fungi, yeast, and bacterial buildup as well.

You can heat two teaspoons of coconut oil and add one or two garlic cloves. Now let the oil become thin so it contains garlic’s components and its aroma.

You can also massage your dog’s ear with this mixture. If you don’t like the idea of using garlic, simply massage his ears with coconut oil, drip some drops of heated and lukewarm coconut oil to his ears.

8. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is said to be extremely effective in clearing any type of fungal and bacterial infection. It is commonly used in the treatment of skin, toenail,s and ear infections. But use this only if the vet permits.

Take a cup of water and add two spoons of hydrogen peroxide. Mix it well and pour 3 drops of this solution into the infected ear.

You may also massage your dog’s ear with this solution for 5-10 minutes. Repeating this every day will make the wax loosen up. You can clean the wax immediately and it will be a huge relief for your dog.

9. Calendula Oil

Calendula Flowers and Oil contain medicinal qualities and properties: they’re antifungal as well as antibacterial and antimicrobial.

You should fill a jar with calendula oil and pour olive oil into it. Leave the jar for 2-3 days and let the oil absorb the aroma and essence of the flowers. Then using a dripper, pour 4 drops into your dog’s ear. Wait for a while and use a cotton swab to clean out the wax.

10. Olive Oil

Remember, you must clean your dog’s ears with olive oil. You can massage his ears with olive oil first and then pour 4-5 drops of olive oil as well. It will make it very easy for the wax to loosen and soften up. You can remove the wax.

The fungal and bacterial infection will be gone with the wax. The remaining strains of the infection can be cleansed by other remedies or continuing olive oil massage.


Ear infections can be very painful in dogs as they can’t even tell you. You must make sure to treat these infections before they get worse.

You may try these home and herbal remedies but if the condition becomes worse, you should consult a vet immediately.
